A guide - Caring for your hunting boots

As hunters, our gear works as hard as we do, and our boots carry us through it all. Whether you are stalking through the forest, walking farmland, or waiting in the blind, your boots are your foundation. That’s why proper care is essential, not just to preserve their performance, but to ensure they stay with you season after season.

Caring for your leather hunting boots

Leather boots are made to be durable, flexible, and weather-resistant, but they need regular attention to keep performing at their best.

1. Clean and dry thoroughly
Brush off any mud or dirt and rinse with lukewarm water. Let the boots dry fully before applying care products. Never skip this step.

2. Apply leather oil
Using a cloth or soft brush, apply a thin, even layer of leather oil to nourish the leather and keep it supple.

3. Let them dry naturally
Avoid placing them near direct heat or in front of a fire, because high temperatures can damage the leather. Let them dry in a warm room.

4. Repeat as needed
For regular use, treat your boots once a month. If you're in the field often, aim for weekly care to protect against wear.

5. Bonus: Care for the soles
Using a rubber care spray on the soles adds extra protection, especially during harsh conditions.

Caring for Cordura® hunting boots

Cordura® boots are lightweight, tough, and breathable, which makes them perfect for long days on your feet, like the Wildwood 2.0 GTX Women. A little maintenance goes a long way to keeping them water-repellent and trail-ready.

1. Clean and dry
Wipe away any dirt and rinse with clean water. Allow them to dry completely before applying care products.

2. Apply waterproofing spray
Choose a spray formulated for technical outdoor fabrics and mist it evenly over the entire boot to maintain water resistance and breathability.

3. Let them dry
Give the fabric time to absorb the spray and dry properly before storage or your next hunt.

4. Repeat regularly
Just like with leather, monthly care is great for general use, and weekly treatment is ideal if you’re out often.

5. Don't forget the soles
Rubber care spray helps keep the soles strong and flexible, especially useful in wet or rugged terrain.

Caring for rubber boots

Rubber boots are a must-have in wet, muddy, or marshy terrain, but even these rugged staples need upkeep to avoid cracking over time.

1. Rinse and spray
Clean off any dirt and apply rubber care spray evenly across the surface of the boots.

2. Let them dry
Give the boots time to absorb the spray and dry naturally. No heat sources needed, just patience.

At Female Hunters, we’re here to support you with gear that works as hard as you do. Whether you’re choosing your first pair of boots or maintaining a trusted favorite, proper care is part of the ritual. It's one more way we honor the tradition, and the future, of women who hunt.
